Chelation and Clathration
At Awaken Nutrition, we consider chelation therapy a vital step toward cleansing the body of contaminants but also knew it was imperative that we isolate a more effective product to complete the toxin-removal task efficiently. We also believe that chelation will soon become a primary frontline treatment for severely and chronically ill patients. Our research and development resulted in the creation of PCA-Rx, a breakthrough peptide clathration formula and our solution to physiological toxicity. Laboratory studies have shown it to effectively clear heavy metals, toxins, plaque, pesticides, chemicals, and residuals from prior bacterial and viral infections.
What is Chelation?
Chelation is a well-known method of heavy metal and toxin removal in which a special drug or chemical compound called a chelate - such as dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA), dimercaptopropane sulfonate (DMPS), or ethylene diaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) - is given, usually intravenously. The chelate finds and forms a single attachment to the toxin with one reversible ionic bond. With that bond intact, the toxin is grabbed onto, pulled off the cell and carried from the body. However, the toxin is not neutralized during this process and is potentially able to attach to other cells on its way out. Conventional chelation also has a harder time clearing heavy metals from cells (due to having just one type of bond to attach with) and some chelating substances even remove needed minerals from the body with the toxins, resulting in some adverse side effects.
What is Clathration?
Clathration is a unique form of chelation therapy in which the clathrating substance - such as PCA-Rx - is given orally. This clathrate then finds and encloses the toxin in a three-dimensional cage-like inclusion complex (also known as a lattice structure or matrix) using three different types of irreversible bonds. These bonds attach to and completely envelop the toxin - essentially neutralizing it - to keep it from coming into contact with any other bodily tissues as it is carried from the body. In this way, the unnatural contaminant has no way of reattaching to and damaging the body as it is flushed out. This method is especially effective against heavy metals. Herein lies the power of PCA-Rx.

What Are These Contaminants and How Do They Enter The Body?
The world, environment, and societies where we live have made bodily contamination impossible to ignore. Through eating, breathing, skin absorption, and everyday exposure to limitless products and chemicals made and used by humans, contaminants find their ways into the body.
Over time these heavy metals, toxic chemicals and residues, plaques and other unnatural intruders continue to slowly accumulate. If the body's natural detoxification pathways (such as the blood, lymph, and cerebral spinal fluid) cannot eliminate them faster that they enter the body, the buildup can eventually reach toxic (and dangerous) levels. At birth, when first exposed to the outside world, the body - guided by a genetic disposition inherited from the parents- begins developing antibodies to defend against external poisons affecting the system. During life the body keeps building antibodies in reaction to most everything it encounters: cooked/processed foods (and their preservatives), chemicals/toxins in the air and ground, other environmental contaminants, drugs, inoculations, dental fillings, sexual partners, and other exposures.
As the body keeps building its protective wall of antibodies, the immune system - like a cup gradually filling with liquid - continues to fill over the years while the body continues to fight against external invaders, forced to build and keep up the wall of antibodies. Eventually, when the body has been fighting too hard and long, and the immune system's "cup" reaches its saturation point and finally overfills, the onset of disease (cancer, multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, lupus, or some other chronic illness) often begins. No matter what the disease, its creation began with the person's first breath on this planet and can often be attributed to the body's constant bombardment from external toxins during life. PCA-Rx can gradually rid the body of its lifelong accumulation of toxins, allowing the immune system to function more effectively and further promoting wellness in the body.
Toxicity Warning Signs
In general, you may not be aware of heavy metals and/or other harmful toxins saturating your body even though it is trying to give you warning signs of their growing (and often overflowing) presence. The body's immune system can only withstand so much saturation by external toxins over time, often culminating in symptoms that may include the following:

These are only general warning signs and this is by no means a complete list. Also, in children, the appearance of the symptoms of autism (slow developmental progress, difficulty verbalizing, etc.) can also be an indication of heavy metal toxicity. Exposure to certain heavy metals is now thought to contribute to childhood autism.
What Is the Autism Connection?
Alarmingly, the approximate rate of autism has escalated from as low as one in 10,000 people not that long ago to as high as one in 150 children today in certain areas. Amazingly, PCA-Rx has proved to be extremely effective in reversing some of the symptoms of autism in children. Although PCA-Rx was not developed to specifically fight autism - its effectiveness on the disorder was an unexpected and wonderful side effect - it has nonetheless been found to wor wonders in this capacity in cases where the buildup of heavy metals or toxins contribute to the autism. When used as an oral clathration method, PCA-Rx has been proven to perform as well or better against the childhood autistic condition than other traditional chelation treatments (such as with DMSA and DMPS), but without the side effects. Similarly, PCA-Rx also seems to be an effective treatment against other environmental illnesses (EIs) like angina, fibromyalgia, and Parkinson's disease.

How It Works
PCA-Rx operates under the concept of peptide clathration. In simplest terms, this living product is a liquid mixture of specially-developed bacteria and other living microscopic entities seeking out and hunting down contaminants in the body. In essence, PCA-Rx focuses on increasing the level of positive microbe consciousness and intentions within a body saturated with toxins.
PCA-Rx is the first-ever oral peptide clathration formula and the most effective chelating substance discovered so far. (See What Is Chelation? and What Is Clathration? above for related information.)
Toxin Attachment. It is PCA-Rx's specifically-sequenced peptides that form the unique toxin-surrounding matrix structure that is unique to the clathration process. (Peptides link together to form proteins, the primary components of the protoplasm of all cells in the body.) First, PCA-Rx separates the toxin from its receptor on the host cell and replaces it with a molecule of its own (preventing other toxins from attaching to the cell), leaving the toxin in a free-floating state. Multiple receptor sites on the peptide matrix then attach to the toxin with three types of strong irreversible bonds (ionic, covalent, and hydrogen), literally wrapping around it to prevent any additional contact with tissues or organs as it is eliminated from the body. Other chelating substances, by contrast, can only bind to a toxin with a single reversible ionic bond at one receptor site as it attempts to tow it out of the system, leaving it free to interact with anything it comes into contact with while in transit. PCA-Rx targets all toxic and unnatural elements in the blood, lymph and spinal fluid, removing anything that is not part of normal cell structure and integrity.
Note that PCA-Rx will not attach to and remove any of the body's beneficial minerals because those belonging in the body are solidly bound and shielded by their own natural enzymes. Heavy metals and toxins have no natural enzymes to protect them, so PCA-Rx can effectively target all non-complex, loosely-bound metals and toxins for removal. However, if there is too much of a natural mineral in the body (as with calcium plaque deposits on arterial walls), PCA-Rx will attach to it as well.
Nutrient Absorption in Cells. PCA-Rx's nutrients (part of Maxam's SMARTT Nutrients technology) are cell site specific, meaning that their delivery to contaminated cells only occurs when the proper cells are found. Because PCA-Rx is a natural colloid and its nutrient particle sizes are so concentrated and small (formulated in nanometers as opposed to milligrams or micrograms), it simulates natural bodily fluids and the body recognizes it as a nutrient - ensuring efficient absorption. These minute particles also give the water portion of the solution a lower surface tension (due to the hydrogen bond angles being increased to 180 degrees, forming linear water and thus making the water "wetter"), thereby enabling more efficient absorption through the mucous membranes of the mouth. Also, each nutrient particle carries a negative surface charge while cell walls have a positive charge, so absorption from the bloodstream into the cell occurs electrokinetically - that is, the nutrients are literally pulled directly into the cell under the "opposites attract" principle. This is a much more efficient method than osmosis (absorption through cell membranes), where only 50% is the maximum level achieved.
More On the Clathration Process. Once absorbed, PCA-Rx easily gains access to the mitochondria of the cell (cell structures containing genetic material and enzymes for cell metabolism), where it gets to the heart of its housecleaning project. There, its tiny components bind to cell receptor sites with greater effectiveness than the heavy metals and/or other toxins already there, thereby releasing them from the receptors. A companion molecule then clathrates (surrounds and engulfs) the toxin, holding onto it until being eliminated from the body through the stool, urine, skin, and breath. PCA-Rx bonds to contaminants with ionic, covalent and hydrogen bonds as compared to DMPS (the most commonly used chelating agent in the past), which utilizes only a single ionic bond. The strength of having three types of bonds at multiple cell receptor sites makes PCA-Rx so effective against heavy metals as well as other bodily toxins.
Heavy Metal Clathration Specifics. The heavy metals clathrated by PCA-Rx include lead, thallium, cadmium, arsenic, aluminum, and mercury. They are clathrated in that same order based on their descending valences. (Valence is a number representing the ability of an element to react or combine with another, as measured by the number of bonds to other atoms that one atom of the given element forms in chemical reactions.) This order of clathration is important to know because, for example, if a person's body is contaminated with lead or another higher-valence heavy metal, the mercury readings in their urine will not drop until the metals with higher valences are clathrated first.
Autism Treatment. Autism is a perplexing disorder for which there is no standard and consistently-accepted treatment. Many autistic children are treated with traditionally-used chelation substances (like DMSA and DMPS) to counteract the abnormal effects of the disorder when heavy metal toxicity is suspected as a cause. However, PCA-Rx's clathrating qualities have been found to work as well or even better against symptoms of autism in kids, without the side effects. PCA-Rx has also shown to be effective against symptoms of other EIs - such as angina, Crohn's disease, Epstein-Barr virus, fibromyalgia and Parkinson's disease, to name a few - also thought to be caused by toxic exposure. It is thought that childhood autism could be triggered by vaccinations that young kids receive for measles/mumps/rubella (MMR) and, to a lesser degree, diphtheria (DPT). Specifically, it is thought that the measles component of the MMR vaccination and the pertussis (whooping cough) component of the DPT shot may be to blame. Most autistic children are normal and functioning well up until the time they receive their MMR and DPT vaccinations, which have been found to leave autism-triggering toxic residues in the body. PCA-Rx has proven to be a safe and effective weapon for finding and removing - through clathration - some of these harmful residues from the bodies of young autism sufferers. PCA-Rx's additional ability to not remove any of the body's natural minerals also results in an absence of the physiologically-stressful side effects common to other chelating drugs. Angina & Fibromyalgia Rheumatica- Thank Goodness for PCA-Rx
