Zinc
Zinc is a catalyst for approximately 100 metabolic enzymes. It plays a structural role in cell membranes and many proteins, regulates gene expression, and influences hormone levels. Zinc enhances immune function, cognitive development and function, detoxification capacity, wound healing, and our senses of taste and smell. Deficiencies are common in individuals with high carbohydrate or alcohol intakes, diabetes, macular degeneration, and chronic viral infections.
